VII.3.4.2.1. Using messages to exchange information
In parallel with the investigation procedure, information may be exchanged via IE144 and IE145 messages from the start of the investigation procedure (the date of sending the IE140 or IE142 messages) until the (customs) debt is collected (the date of sending the IE152 message). These information exchange messages will not close an open investigation procedure with the customs office of destination (IE142 message) or with the holder of the procedure (IE140 message).
However, if the information provided by the competent authority of the country of departure in the IE142 message is not sufficient to allow the competent authority of the country of destination to carry out the appropriate searches, the latter may request additional information from the former by sending the message "Request for information on investigation and recovery" (IE145) using the appropriate information codes requested.
The competent authority of the country of departure will attempt to provide the requested additional information to the requesting competent authority of the country of destination using the "Investigation and Recovery Information" (IE144) message with the appropriate information codes.
Requested paper documents will be sent directly to the contact person mentioned in the message. This submission may be made by alternative means (postal mail, email, fax, etc.) if possible, but must be clearly identified by the NRM.
