VII.3.4.4.4. Research Request Response Codes

In the IE143 message, the competent authority of the destination country shall use one of the following response codes:

Code "1" – shipment unknown at destination

  • The goods have not been presented at the declared destination customs office. The competent authority of the country of departure should, where possible, try to identify the actual customs office of destination or refer the request to the holder of the procedure.

Code "2" – assumption of duplication

  • The goods have been presented to the declared destination customs office and those customs authorities assume that two IE015 "Declaration Data" messages have been sent in relation to the same shipment.

Code "3" – return of the copy to be returned (date)

  • The goods have been presented to the declared customs office of destination, but that customs office has not been able to complete the procedure using messages IE006 and IE018 and has instead returned alternative evidence (e.g., a copy of the DAT) that has not yet been received by the customs office of the country of departure.

Code "4" – request for collection at destination

  • Although the goods were not presented at the destination customs office, they were subsequently discovered in the same country (e.g., outside the official customs regime). Consequently, the competent customs office of destination wishes to assume responsibility for collection and sends the "Request for Collection" message (IE150) to the competent customs office of departure so that it can recover the goods once they have been delivered to the recipient or have crossed the border (IE118 message).
