VII.5.1. Objectives and methods of ex post control

Article 52 of Appendix I to the Convention
Article 292 of the AE

The competent customs authority may carry out post-release checks on the information provided, as well as on the documents, forms, authorizations, or data relating to the common/Union transit operation, in order to verify the authenticity and accuracy of the information, the information exchanged, and the stamps.

A posteriori control will be carried out by means of a risk analysis or randomly. However, the check will be carried out automatically in case of doubts or suspicion of fraud or irregularities.

The competent customs authority receiving a request for post-release control shall respond to such request without delay.

Where the competent customs authority of departure requests information relating to the common/Union transit operation from the customs authority competent for post-release control, the conditions for the completion of the transit procedure shall not be deemed to have been fulfilled until the authenticity and accuracy of the data have been confirmed.
