24 high-end vehicles stolen in the United States recovered in the port of Algeciras

A joint operation by the Tax Agency and the Guardia Civil

February 20, 2023.- The Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, within the framework of the 'American Stuff' operation, have recovered 24 vehicles stolen in Algeciras port facilities. USA.

The researchers, in the context of the risk analyzes carried out in the port of Algeciras during 2022, had detected an increase in illicit trafficking of high-end vehicles from the United States through containers.

As a consequence of the control, identification and inspection work of containers destined for or transiting in Spain, which is carried out daily in the container terminal of the port of Algeciras, a phase of intensification of the services oriented began at the beginning of the year. to the verification of containers in transit likely to carry stolen vehicles from the US destined for African countries.

As a result of the operation, a total of 24 high-end vehicles, whose total market value amounts to two million euros, have been seized during the month of January.

After the appropriate verifications, the agents verified that they were stolen vehicles, and these were returned to the United States, with whose authorities they are collaborating in order to continue the investigations.

The operation has been carried out by Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency (Algeciras Combined Customs Surveillance Unit) and civil guards from the Tax Analysis and Investigation Office (ODAIFI), both assigned to the Risk Analysis Unit ( UAR) of Algeciras Customs.
