The Ministry of Economy and Finance warns of an Internet fraud attempt using its name and image
The scam refers to a non-existent tax refund.
July 14, 2009. The Ministry of Economy and Finance has today detected a large number of email communications in which its name and image are being fraudulently used.
The email refers to a non-existent tax refund, which supposedly benefits the recipient of the email. In order to access the money, bank account and credit card details must be provided.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the Tax Agency, has taken the necessary measures to pursue this attempted fraud and reminds users that the best measure is to prevent suspicious communications that include requests for bank details. Neither the Ministry of Economy and Finance nor the Tax Agency request confidential information, account numbers, or card numbers from taxpayers by email.
