The Tax Agency seizes 4,000 kilograms of hashish in Cartagena
The seized drugs are believed to have a market value of more than 5 million euros.
On November 22, the Tax Agency's Customs Surveillance patrol boat Colimbo IV seized 4,000 kilograms of hashish on the high seas, approximately 60 nautical miles southeast of the city of Cartagena.
The operation began at around 4:00 p.m. when naval resources from the Tax Agency detected a suspicious vessel, a 12-meter-long motor yacht. Colimbo IV officers board the vessel and find that a large number of bales of hashish have accumulated on the deck and in open spaces. They also found that most of the six crew members and the owner have numerous criminal records for drug smuggling.
The drugs were distributed in 128 burlap packages with a total weight of 4,000 kilograms, which would have reached a value of 5,528,000.00 euros on the illegal market.
The drugs, the six detainees and the seized boat have been taken to Cartagena and placed at the disposal of the Cartagena Court of Instruction on Duty.
Investigations continue to identify and arrest the rest of the members of the organization.
