The Tax Agency seizes 2.8 tons of hashish in Murcia

- The drugs, with a market value of 4,350,000 euros, were transported by a van preceded by a shuttle vehicle

The Tax Agency has seized 91 bales of hashish resin on the road that connects the municipalities of Los Belones and Los Nietos in Murcia. The 91 bales weigh 2,820 kilos. The drug is believed to have been valued at 4,350,000 euros on the black market.

The operation, called 'Casón', began on the afternoon of October 15, when Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency of Murcia were alerted by some residents of the area about strange movements of two vehicles, a van and a Jaguar with British license plates, which were traveling between the Murcian municipalities of Los Belones and Los Nietos.

When the officers proceeded to identify the drivers, they fled, abandoning both vehicles.  A significant number of packages, the kind normally used to transport hashish, were hidden inside the van. The Jaguar was used as a guide vehicle or shuttle that preceded the van to warn it of the presence of state security forces.

The operation, which is still ongoing, has so far resulted in the seizure of the two vehicles and the drugs, which will be placed at the disposal of the Cartagena Court of Instruction in the coming days.

The seizure is part of the usual Customs Surveillance actions of the Tax Agency against the smuggling of sensitive goods in general and against drug trafficking in particular. As of August 31, the Tax Agency had seized 84 tons of hashish. In 2011, it seized 119 tons and 175 in 2010.
