Over 2.3 tonnes of hash seized in Algeciras in a combined operation by the Tax Agency and the Guardia Civil

August 30, 2018 .- A total of 2,332 kilos of hashish have been seized in Algeciras (Cádiz) in a joint operation by the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, part of the ongoing fight maintained by the General State Administration against drug smuggling in the Campo de Gibraltar.

Thus, thanks to the close collaboration between the AEAT and the Civil Guard, on August 10 this criminal activity was dealt a significant blow.

The operation began when the Customs Surveillance aerial means of the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, on patrol in the waters of the Strait, detected several semi-rigid vessels, sailing without lights and loaded with a significant number of bales usually used for shipping. hashish trafficking and who were sailing towards the coast in the municipality of Algeciras, where no less than 15 people were waiting with the intention of unloading the illicit merchandise.

The acting forces notified the Permanent Customs Surveillance Support Center in Algeciras, as well as the Civil Guard Services Operational Center, to reinforce the operation with the support of maritime and land patrols from both bodies.

After aerial monitoring, the beginning of unloading of the bales was verified, which motivated the rapid intervention of the helicopter. Upon realizing the presence of the police and Customs Surveillance, the drug traffickers began a quick escape, abandoning the merchandise they were storing.

Minutes later, members of the Civil Guard arrived in the area and, together with the Customs Surveillance patrollers, searched the area and managed to recover a total of 71 bales of hashish, which had been abandoned after the chase, and which were dumped. a weight of 2,332 kilos.

The difficult orographic nature of the area and the existing vegetation have prevented the arrest of the drug traffickers, although the operation remains open, arrests have not been ruled out, and aerial, maritime and land monitoring has been carried out.
