The new AEAT app will enable over 4,850,000 taxpayers to file their tax returns in a single click

2017 Income support services in advance

  • The new mobile app, which can be downloaded from today, allows you to request and store the reference number, and consult tax details, and from 4 April, you can use it to file tax returns
  • Through 'push' notifications, taxpayers will be notified when their tax return has been issued and receive information that can be stored on the app itself
  • Taxpayers who confirmed their income tax return without changes last year at a Tax Agency office, will start to receive from today letters with their tax details, box 450, in order to obtain the reference number and information on the "Callback" plan for completing tax returns by phone

March 15, 2018 .- The Tax Agency makes available to taxpayers today a new mobile application that, starting next April 4, will allow them to present the 2017 Income in a single click' for the simplest declarations (an estimated group of beneficiaries is at least 4,850,000 taxpayers) and it will also be a powerful assistance tool for the rest of the filers, by making it easier to obtain the reference number, view the tax data and the receipt of 'push' messages with information of interest such as the time of issuance of your refund.

The new APP is expected to be downloaded on over 44 million mobile phones, allowing taxpayers to access Tax Agency services any time and from any place, making it easier for all citizens to manage their most frequent procedures.

The APP is available from today on the Google and Apple app stores for all mobile phones (and tablets) using Android and iOS operating systems. Furthermore, for security reasons, its use for customised services such as managing and filing Income Tax returns requires that the device is equipped with an activated screen lock system.

Once the app is downloaded, to access customised taxpayer services users will have to log in using their reference number, which can be obtained in three ways: with box 450 of the prior year's tax return, the tax code and the date of validity; or using Cl@ve PIN or electronic ID. Then, the user will be shown a reference number -which will be stored in the app for subsequent use- and they will be able to accept new push notifications on the app.

'One click' filing

In the case of standard tax returns, those in which the Tax Agency has enough information to file the tax return directly, taxpayers can, after verifying their details, go ahead and file their tax return with just one click.

For these tax returns, if the taxpayer wants to make any modification or incorporate any additional details, the app gives them the option to open the Agency's income tax web page directly from the app. Then, they can complete the process on the mobile device, since the app will keep running in the background for the taxpayer to go back and file the return.

For all other taxpayers, who are required to provide information in order to file, the app will send them straight to the Income Tax website.

The app allows up to 20 user profiles, each with its own reference number, allowing one person to prepare and file the tax returns of family members and relatives, and also figuring out the most favourable option when it comes to individual or joint filing.

Early launch of help services

The rolling out of the Tax Agency APP is also coupled with the early launching of other help services offered by the Tax Agency. This year the taxpayer will have more time to prepare their tax procedures and, if they so wish, they can file their tax return directly online from the first day of the filing period. This early filing service was used by 88% of taxpayers last year.

Thus, from today all taxpayers will be able to request their reference number and view their tax data on the AEAT website ( Headquarters.agenciatributaria.gob.es ) and in the APP.

Also from today, letters will start going out to the 860,000 taxpayers who filed in person at Tax Agency offices last year, confirming their draft tax return proposed by the Tax Agency without changes.

These taxpayers, who presumably in most cases can file their Income Tax return as standard from day one and, if applicable, can receive their eligible tax refund in advance without waiting for on-site filing in May and June, will receive from today letters with their tax details, box 450, which they can use to obtain the reference number and information on help services.

'Callback' Scheme

These taxpayers will also be informed of the option to avail of the 'Callback' scheme, which is available to all taxpayers with a phone helpline profile.

This scheme, together with the app, is the main new feature of this year's income tax campaign, which was run on a trial basis last year, and is now being rolled out to a broad array of taxpayers from the very first day of the filing period, 4 April. Appointments can be requested from 4 April.

Appointments will be allocated in 15-minute slots, between 9 am and 8:30 pm, to suit taxpayer availability, and they must have all necessary information ready to carry out the tax return at the agreed callback time.

With these two tools combined, the APP and the 'Callback' scheme, as well as continued improvements in the Tax Agency's Income Tax website (Renta Web) and its other traditional online services, the number of taxpayers needing on-site attention for filing or confirming their tax returns is expected to be significantly reduced, thereby enabling greater efforts to be dedicated on-site to the more complex income tax returns.
