The Tax Agency has already refunded over 6.9 billion euros to 11.1 million taxpayers following the end of the campaign
2017 Income Tax campaign

July 4, 2018 .- The Tax Agency has already returned 6.927 million euros to 11.120.000 taxpayers after concluding the Personal Income Tax campaign for 2017 (IRPF 2017), so that, at this time, almost 80% of the requested refunds and more than 69% of the amounts have already been paid.
Up to yesterday's date, the Tax Agency had already registered 19,732,000 Tax returns, 334,000 more than on the same date last year. Tax returns with requests for refunds amount to 13,913,000, 70% of the total.
Now, after a slight decrease registered in Tax returns with requests for refund (-0.48%), payments have grown by 0.29%. Likewise, amounts returned increased regarding those requested as, while there was a moderate increase in the amounts requested for return, 0.15%, the amounts paid to taxpayers at 3 July increased by 1.59%.
Two new filing channels
The last campaign included, as an important feature, two new filing channels, the new mobile application and the 'We'll call you' plan, for preparing tax returns by phone. The new 'APP' has been used by almost 200,000 taxpayers to file their Income Tax returns. Of this total, almost 158,000 have been declarations submitted 'in a single click' and the rest have been submitted after going through the Agency's website to make any changes.
In turn, 141,000 taxpayers who are less accustomed to new technologies and chose to receive telephone assistance, opted to set a time and date for the Tax Agency to call them, thus filing their returns over the phone using the 'We'll call you' plan. This includes the returns of other taxpayers who, after arranging an appointment to receive over-the-phone assistance, eventually decided to complete the filing process through other remote channels. Over-the-phone filing, including the traditional inbound calls to the Tax Agency and the 'We'll call you' plan, increased by 83%, totalling almost 180,000 Tax returns filed using this channel.
In last year's campaign, taxpayers were given more time to prepare, from 15 March, to be able to file their Tax return from the first day through 'RENTA WEB', the universal tool offered by the Tax Agency to manage all tax returns.
These new features resulted in a significant increase in the filing of Tax returns during the first third of the campaign, corresponding to remote filing. Thus, in the first third of the campaign, 776,000 more tax returns were filed compared with the same period of the previous year.
Of this increase, 235,000 are taxpayers who, in the last campaign, waited to receive in-person office assistance from May onwards, but who decided to use one of the various remote filing methods this year, to accelerate the process and the potential refund.
The advantages of the new filing channels, the early in-person office assistance service and the new improvements in RENTA WEB have allowed almost 33% more taxpayers compared with the previous year who visited the Tax Agency offices for assistance in completing their tax returns, and who did not make any modifications with respect to the initial calculations proposed by the Tax Agency, to opt for remote tax filing methods this year, thus saving on unnecessary travel and benefiting from earlier tax refunds.
At the same time, the Tax agency has maintained the traditional personal attention service in its offices, and has filed on Income platforms, over 2,100,000 Tax returns, against the almost 2,600,000 of last year.
Wealth Tax
In parallel to the Personal Income Tax Campaign, the Agency began the campaign of Wealth Tax, to be declared by taxpayers who owe taxes (after applying the pertinent deductions and discounts) and by taxpayers who do not owe taxes but who last year had assets and rights to the value of over 2 million euros. As at yesterday's date, nearly 203,000 Wealth Tax returns had been filed and the amount owed totalled 1,108 million euros.
