More than 3.2 tons of hashish were seized, hidden in recycled cardboard boxes sent to the Peninsula from Melilla.

A joint operation by the Tax Agency and the Guardia Civil

October 27, 2025.- The Tax Agency's Customs Surveillance Service and the Civil Guard have arrested two people for drug trafficking after seizing more than 3.2 tons of hashish hidden in recycled cardboard boxes in the province of Granada from the port of Melilla.

This is one of the largest seizures of this type of substance from the autonomous city in recent years.

The Customs Surveillance Service and the Civil Guard launched "Operation Sarcina" after detecting a suspicious drug shipment from Melilla to the Peninsula.

The agents organized a joint operation to track the cargo from Melilla to the Iberian Peninsula. The shipment was inspected at the port of Malaga by Customs Surveillance and Civil Guard officers.

Despite being packaged and impregnated to mask its scent, hidden among recycled cardboard, the drugs were located with the help of the Civil Guard's canine detection dogs.

The shipment was finally intercepted in the province of Granada, resulting in the seizure of 3,225 kilos of hashish with a market value of €20 million and the arrest of two people.
