The Tax Agency launches its new website to offer taxpayers more agility and convenience in their online transactions

New unified structure of the portal and the e-Office

  • A single electronic office will provide access to information services and procedures, with a new, more user-focused design.
  • To facilitate the transition, during the first months the revamped website will be offered to users exclusively via the traditional site, which will be taken over in the autumn and will go offline at the end of the year.
  • The homepage allows all sections to be quickly viewed, the most frequently used operations to be quickly accessed, and it features an improved search engine to make it easier to find content.

July 15, 2021 .- The Tax Agency has launched today a new website that unifies the information portal and the electronic headquarters, so that all services will become accessible under one thematic structure of content – regardless of whether it is information or procedures – that makes navigation more comfortable and agile for the taxpayer, thus improving the user experience.

To ease the transition in the use of the website which has more than 140 million users per year and more than 600 million visits, during the first months the new page will only be offered to users through a prominent access from the traditional page, which will be phased out in autumn and go offline at the end of the year. In any case, the Agency's website will continue to be accessible at all times by entering the usual address ( sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es ).

The Tax Agency has decided to wait until the end of the Income Tax Campaign to initiate this extended transition period, thus reducing the impact on a large number of users who mainly interact with the Agency via electronic channels for procedures related to their personal income tax return.

Design, search and browsing improvements

The new website has a modern design to facilitate browsing and a user-oriented vision and language, with explanations and descriptions prior to accessing the different procedures. The aim is to strengthen the Agency's website as a basic tool to minimise the indirect costs of tax compliance for taxpayers.

Along the same lines of offering simplicity and convenience, the web search engine will be improved to make it easier to locate the information content and the procedures to be carried out. In addition, users will have access to their personal area on the homepage, where they will be able to view their files, registration data, notifications and documents pending signature.

Highlights

The homepage shows the user three main sections: a block of contents that will change over time ('carousel', or 'slider'), another with the most relevant procedures due to their importance and use by taxpayers (highlighted procedures), and a third (information and formalities) structured by topics that provides access to the different procedures and informative contents.

In the 'carousel', users will find information such as the most relevant filing campaigns at any given time, or notices that are considered particularly significant on a given date.

The highlighted procedures are grouped into five categories identified by different graphic icons (filing returns, electronic registration, prior appointment, payments and deferrals, and notifications sent by the Agency).

Structure by topic

The third large block on the homepage is made up of 16 topics that segment access to information and procedures on the website, either by tax (personal income tax, VAT, corporate income tax and others), or by taxpayer profile (businesspersons, companies, citizens, travellers and non-residents) and subject (customs, vehicles and housing); or by the type of procedure (informative declarations, collaboration, registers and debts).

The objective of this segmentation by topic is to provide users with more convenient and intuitive access to the content that, in their specific case and for each occasion, is of interest to them. In addition, the browsing structure has been simplified, with the contents hierarchised by topics, subtopics and information.

Finally, the top area of the homepage contains the latest information (news, press releases and statistics), and the lower part of the page offers shortcuts to various subjects of interest, as well as a section for manuals, videos and brochures. Likewise, a block at the bottom of the page with the legal and security notices, the 'Contact us' and 'Help' sections, links of interest and the date the page was updated is maintained throughout the navigation of the new website.
