Information on new representative certificates (FNMT)

Since June 6, 2016, the FNMT has started to issue new representative certificates, in accordance with the new European regulations. As of this date, the current certificates for legal entities and entities without legal personality will no longer be issued, nor will their renewal be permitted through the website. However, these certificates may continue to be used until they expire or are revoked.

The three new certificates issued by the FNMT are:

  • Representative Certificate for Sole or Joint Administrator : This certificate is issued to sole or joint administrators as representatives of legal entities for their relations with public administrations and in the contracting of goods or services of their own or concerning their ordinary business or traffic. You can obtain your representative certificate without having to appear at the registry offices or provide any documentation, provided that the Sole or Joint Administrator identifies himself/herself when requesting the certificate with an electronic natural person certificate issued by the FNMT –RCM or with the electronic DNI . The FNMT will connect with the Commercial Registry to check the powers of representation that appear in said Registry in favor of the interested party.
  • Certificate of Representative of Legal Entity : It is issued to natural persons as representatives of legal entities for use in their relations with public administrations, entities and public bodies, linked to or dependent on them. In this case, the recipient will need to go to a registration office with the documentation required to prove his or her capacity to act on behalf of the Legal Entity.
  • Certificate of Representative of Entity without Legal Personality : It is issued to individuals as representatives of entities without legal personality in the tax area and others provided for in current legislation. Accreditation at a registry office is also required.
