Information on FNMT certificates for an individual (AC FNMT Users)

Since 1 March 2015, the FNMT has been issuing a new type of digital certificate for individuals.This certificate is issued by a new authority called 'AC FNMT Usuarios', instead of 'FNMT Clase 2 CA', providing a stronger signature algorithm and longer passwords.

These new certificates are valid for 4 years, and allow for the certificate to be renewed once online during the final 2 months of their validity.After an AC FNMT Usuarios certificate is renewed, following the subsequent 4-year validity period, the citizen will have to request a new certificate using the usual procedure, and by going to a registration office.

The FNMT Clase 2 CA certificates issued before 1 March 2015 are still valid until their expiry date, and can be renewed via the FNMT website provided they have not already been renewed in the past.Following this renewal, you will receive a certificate from the new authority, 'AC FNMT Usuarios'.

If your FNMT Clase 2 CA certificate has not already been renewed in the past, you can use this certificate to get accreditation online, and obtain a new AC FNMT Usuarios certificate without the need to go to a registration office.
