Information on FNMT natural person certificates (AC FNMT Users)

Since March 1, 2015, the FNMT is issuing a new type of digital certificate for natural persons. This certificate is issued by a new authority called "AC FNMT Users", instead of the already known " FNMT Class 2 CA", which provides it with a more powerful signature algorithm and key length.

These new certificates have a validity period of 4 years and allow a single renewal of the certificate by electronic means during the 2 months prior to its expiration. Following the first renewal of an AC FNMT Users certificate, after the validity period of another 4 years has elapsed, the citizen will have to request a new certificate using the usual procedure, going to a registration office.

FNMT Class 2 CA certificates issued before March 1, 2015 remain valid until their expiration date and can be renewed through the FNMT website as long as they are not the result of a previous renewal. With this renewal you will obtain a certificate from the new authority "AC FNMT Users".

If your FNMT Class 2 CA certificate does not come from a previous renewal, you can benefit from online accreditation with this certificate and obtain the new AC FNMT Users certificate without having to go to a registration office.
