How to suspend an electronic certificate
The suspension renders the certificate ineffective for a specific period of time and under certain conditions.
The possibility of suspending a certificate, as well as the procedure established for such suspension, depends on the Certification Authority that issued it (you can consult the Certification Authority's web page).
The FNMT-RCM may suspend the validity of the certificates of representation for the following reasons:
- at the request of the interested party;
- at the request of a judicial authority;
- due to doubts regarding the causes for the expiration of the certificates' validity.
Furthermore, the suspension may be enforced in response to an ongoing criminal or administrative investigation or procedure, the conclusion of which may result in the certificate being withdrawn.In these cases, the FNMT-RCM, at the request of the legitimate interested party, suspends the validity of the certificate for the period of time required and, once this term is over, revoke the certificates unless the FNMT-RCM is requested, by the legitimate affected party, to reactivate it.
The FNMT will proceed with the provisional suspension of the certificate for a period of thirty days, after which the certificate will be cancelled by directly revoking it, unless the suspension has been lifted as part of a request to cancel the suspension.(This period of thirty days may be amended dependent on the criminal or administrative procedures).
The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (the National Mint - FNMT) allows you to suspend certificates.To this end, a certificate may be suspended by the subscriber, the representative or an authorised party with the appropriate authorisation.
The suspension of certificates of representation can be requested via the Registry Offices set up by the User Institutions with which the FNMT-RCM has entered into the corresponding agreement.
If, during the suspension of the certificate, it expires or its revocation is requested, the consequences shall be the same as for non-suspended certificates that expire or are revoked.
