This data element refers to the type and reference of the transport document. In the case of low value shipments, the reference to the transport document provided in this data element may, in certain cases, result in the dispensing with the reference to the preceding document (see footnote [72] concerning ED 12 01 000 000 of annex B of AD CAU ).

Express transport companies usually provide the air waybill number as a transport document. This is a unique identifier for a particular shipment and can be used to search either system (national or trans-European) to track the shipment's history.

Postal service operators use the S10 barcode for the purposes of ED 12 01 000 000. This number allows you to track a specific postal item.
