Economic activities, environment and taxes

Area : Geography and History. Type : Group. Level : Second Cycle of ESO

  • Organize the class into groups of 4 or 5. Each group will research an economic activity and analyze whether and how that activity negatively impacts the environment. After analysis, each group will draw conclusions and propose a series of fiscal measures to mitigate these harmful effects: For example, creating a special tax for polluting companies or tax exemptions for other clean companies, etc. The description of that activity, the analysis and the conclusions will be presented on a mural.

  • The economic activities that can be analyzed, among others, are:

    • A paint factory.

    • A quarry.

    • A greenhouse to produce flowers all year round.

    • A fishing freezer boat.

    • The layout of a high-speed train track.

    • A 24-hour supermarket in the middle of the city.

    • An electrical distribution network.
