National Identity Document (DNI)
The National Identity Document (DNI), issued by the General Directorate of the Police (Ministry of the Interior), is the document that proves identity, the personal data that appears in it and the Spanish nationality of its owner.
In 2006, the electronic National Identity Document ( DNIe ) was created, made of polycarbonate with the affiliation data engraved on the body of the card and incorporating a small integrated circuit (chip), capable of to securely store information and process it internally. The technological advances on the chip allow the citizen to connect with the Administration in a digital way, make use of his/her electronic identity, and digitally remotely sign documents. To do this, the citizen must have a hardware device that allows the certificates contained on the chip to be read, facilitates connection to the various digital services, and enables the different drivers necessary for the operation of the hardware to be installed.
