The Tax Agency intervenes a sports boat with 330 kilos of hashish on the coast of Almería

The fight against drug trafficking

  • The two crew members of the boat were arrested, who tried to justify the sunken position of the boat's bow with an alleged load of fish

April 22, 2022.- Officials of the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency have seized 330 kilos of hashish that were being transported inside a recreational boat on the coast of Almería. The operation also led to the arrest of the two crew members of the boat, which had a pronounced sinking in its bow, which the detainees claimed was a false load of fish.

The operation took place on April 17, when, using the detection means of the Customs Surveillance Service, a patrol boat based in Almería identified the presence of a sports boat sailing north towards the coast of Almería and which could have made a transfer on the high seas.

The Customs Surveillance patrol boat headed towards the target to carry out a reconnaissance. After reaching the boat, the officers questioned its crew, who said they had come from fishing, although they were not carrying any fish. After inspecting the boat, which had its bow very low, they discovered that there were various packages wrapped in burlap, the kind normally used to transport hashish.

The two crew members were immediately arrested and the boat was taken to the port of Almería, where a thorough count was carried out, resulting in the seizure of 40 packages of different sizes that weighed a total of 330 kilos of hashish, according to an initial 'narcotest' control.

The boat, the drugs and other items seized, along with the people arrested, were placed at the disposal of the Second Court of Instruction of Almería, which was on duty.

Investigations are continuing in order to identify whether there are more people involved in the events.
