  • Twenty people arrested, 15,000 euros in cash seized, as well as some 250 kilos of marijuana, 73 kilos of buds, firearms and a vehicle
  • They are charged with drug trafficking, electricity fraud and illegal possession of weapons.

August 22, 2022.- The Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency in a joint operation with agents of the National Police arrested on July 26 in the 'La Hermandad' urbanization, belonging to the town of Coria del Río, 20 people, aged between 20 and 62 years old during a macro operation, in which 9 entries and searches were carried out in the main homes subject to the investigation.

In addition, the agents have seized 15,000 euros in cash, about 250 kilos of marijuana plants and 73 kilos of buds, firearms, simulated pistols, shotguns and a vehicle, among other items.

Strong social alarm

The investigation began at the beginning of the summer within the framework of the Albur-Currahee operation, jointly by both bodies, after the agents became aware of multiple complaints from neighbours, which caused strong social alarm among the residents of the Coriana housing estate, who regularly live with people dedicated to illegal drug trafficking.

Criminals are concentrated in this area mainly due to its specific geographical location, as it is far from the main urban centres, which makes the development of investigations difficult and favours the commission of crimes.

Hard work of more than a hundred agents

Customs Surveillance and National Police officers jointly carried out a large-scale operation on 26 July, which involved the hard work of more than a hundred officers, including the presence and support provided by special and specialized units of the National Police, such as officers from the Special Security Operations Group, the Police Intervention Unit, the Prevention and Reaction Unit, as well as Canine Guides specialized in finding banknotes, weapons and drugs.

By court order, 9 raids and searches were authorized in the properties of the main suspects, which were carried out last July, in the 'La Hermandad' urbanization of the municipality of Coriano, with the aim of eradicating the illegal cultivation and trafficking of substances harmful to health, such as marijuana.

During the operation, the agents seized 15,000 euros in cash, 4,600 marijuana plants weighing a total of 241 kg, a large quantity of marijuana buds vacuum-packed and ready for sale on the illicit market, weighing 73 kg, 4 firearms, 2 simulated pistols, 2 BB rifles, a shotgun, 7 large knives and a vehicle.

Twenty men and women of different ages, dedicated to the cultivation, production and sale of marijuana, both indoors and outdoors, were also arrested and subsequently brought before the courts.

They are charged with drug trafficking, electricity fraud, and having fraudulently connected the electricity supply, and some of them are also accused of illegal possession of weapons.
