The Tax Agency dismantles a smuggled tobacco distribution center in Seville

Operation against tobacco smuggling

  • Two people have been arrested
  • 1,351 kilos of tobacco tobacco seized

December 19, 2022.- Customs Surveillance Officials of the Tax Agency have dismantled a tobacco packaging and manufacturing center located in a warehouse located in the municipality of La Rinconada, Seville.

The operation, called 'Corner', began last November when agents from the Seville Customs Surveillance Operational Unit detected the activity of a group of individuals who were presumably engaged in tobacco processing in a warehouse in the town of The corner place.

The 'modus operandi' consisted of preparing large batches of cut tobacco in packages of different sizes to later distribute them throughout the national territory through courier companies.

In this way, on December 12, a surveillance device was established that resulted in the interception of a van loaded with contraband tobacco that was leaving the ship, subsequently proceeding to the inspection, where more packages were found prepared for its distribution.

As a result of the actions of Customs Surveillance, 1,351 kilos of tobacco tobacco were seized and two individuals were arrested for an alleged crime of smuggling.

Both the seized effects and those detained have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court on duty in Seville.

The investigation is still open, so it is not ruled out that more arrests will occur in the coming days.
