Two arrested in two operations against drug trafficking in Tenerife

Joint operations of the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard

  • The first detainee is a person living in Las Palmas who traveled to Tenerife to pick up a package where 25 kilos of hashish were hidden.

  • The second is a British tourist who brought five kilos of marijuana by postal package during his stay.

May 27, 2022.- Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard have carried out two operations in which two people have been arrested for an alleged crime of drug trafficking.

The first intervention took place on April 28 when, as a result of the tax inspection points carried out by the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit of the Tax Agency and the Fiscal Protection and Borders Section of the North Airport of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in At the ADT premises, a package was identified that, according to what was declared, transported car parts, but which actually contained 25 kilos of hashish inside.

As a consequence, the investigators proceeded to set up a device to identify the owner of the package, who turned out to be a resident of Gran Canaria, from where he had traveled by plane that same morning to pick up the package. When the suspect was preparing to leave the island by boat, he was intercepted and arrested.

The detainee was transferred to the Civil Guard offices at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife dock, where proceedings were carried out, and on the morning of April 29 he was brought to judicial custody in the Investigating Court on guard duty.

Postal parcel with marijuana

The second intervention occurred on May 13, when an individual of British nationality who was spending a long period of vacation, which began at the beginning of April, in the municipality of Adeje, was identified and detained.

The investigators verified that, during this period, the suspect took the opportunity to introduce, through shipments of postal packages from different countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, different quantities of marijuana buds that reached a total gross weight exceeding five kilos. This drug was sent to his vacation home to, supposedly, proceed with its distribution.

The detainee was transferred to the Civil Guard offices of Playa de Las Américas, where proceedings were carried out, and on the morning of the 14th he was brought to judicial custody at the Arona Investigative Court on guard duty.
