7,000 counterfeit items seized in Mallorca

  • In an operation, 48 packages suspected of containing counterfeit merchandise were discovered
  • The investigations led to the identification of the establishments receiving the merchandise, where more counterfeit items were seized.

August 7, 2023.- Customs Surveillance Officers of the Tax Agency have seized 7,224 imitation items of renowned brands in Mallorca for violating the Industrial Property Law.

The investigation was carried out after detecting the arrival of forty-eight packages suspected of containing illegal or counterfeit merchandise destined for commercial establishments in Mallorca, which were organized to receive and distribute it.

Once the contents of the merchandise were checked, leather bags and accessories from renowned brands, sportswear from football teams, sports shoes and caps from various brands were found, which allegedly violated the Industrial Property Law. The sale of these items would have generated an estimated profit of 637,920 euros.

The intervention was carried out as a result of the intensification of the pursuit of trafficking in counterfeit products through the development of new investigation methodologies and detection tools for illicit goods.

The investigation is still open, with four people being investigated in the judicial procedure as recipients of the counterfeit articles intended for wholesale sale, which were allegedly subsequently destined for various commercial establishments and for street sales.
