January 14, 2023.- Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the Civil Guard, in a joint operation, have seized 700 kilos of hashish in the Huelva Estuary and have arrested two people as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health.
The operation was carried out on the morning of January 9, when the Operations Centre became aware of the presence of a semi-rigid boat sailing from the Punta Umbría Estuary towards the Huelva Estuary and which could be loaded with drugs. The surveillance of the area had been initiated by officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the Civil Guard the previous morning when, following investigations carried out, it became known that the drug had possibly been unloaded.
Therefore, once the boat was spotted, the provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard was notified to check the cargo it was carrying. Upon detecting the police presence, the boat's crew fled, even ramming the police vessel on several occasions.
Finally, the agents managed to board the boat, subdue its occupants and seize its cargo.
Once in port and after unloading, 20 bales containing 700 kilos of hashish were counted. Two mobile phones and a GPS were also seized.
The detainees and the investigations carried out have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
The operation involved Customs Surveillance officers from the Tax Agency together with agents for the Fight against Drug Trafficking OCON-EDOA and the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard Command of Huelva.
