12 kilos of cannabis buds sent by courier from Italy seized in Cáceres

  • Two people arrested on charges of smuggling drugs

20 February 2023.- Members of the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit of the Cáceres Tax Agency, in collaboration with the Regional Customs Surveillance Area of Madrid, have seized 12.42 kilos of cannabis buds and 80 grams of hashish resin, as well as the arrest of two people of Spanish nationality, residents of Cáceres.

The operation was carried out on January 31, coordinated by the Madrid Prosecutor's Office, through a controlled delivery of the narcotic substances, which were sent from Italy to a business in the center of the capital of Cáceres, using a courier company for delivery.

During the operation, the two partners of the company that was importing the drugs were arrested for an alleged crime against public health and drug trafficking, and were brought before the court. The Judicial Body has decreed that those under investigation must appear every fifteen days.

Cannabis buds, regardless of their content of the psychoactive substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), are subject to control under Schedule 1 of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. Therefore, cannabis buds may only be produced, distributed or marketed for medical or scientific purposes and with the corresponding legal authorization.
