February 3, 2023.- Officials from the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Tarifa Tax Section have intercepted more than 1,300 mobile phones hidden in a vehicle at the port of Tarifa.
The incident occurred while officials were carrying out routine inspections in the area designated for inspecting vehicles that are shipped daily to Tangier.
During a search of a vehicle, officers found more than 1,300 mobile phones of different brands (Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi and Aquos) hidden in the spare wheel and under the rear seats, with a market value of over 125,000 euros.
The vehicle was occupied by two people of Moroccan origin who did not present any documentation to support the legal origin of the terminals, which have been seized at the Tarifa Customs office.
The agents have been able to discover that the phones have arrived in Tarifa from other European countries and have opened an investigation to verify their possible illicit origin.
