More than 12,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes seized in the Malaga town of Torre del Mar

  • The driver of the vehicle that was transporting part of the tobacco has been arrested and charged with a smuggling crime.

July 14, 2023.- Customs Surveillance Officials from the Tax Agency, together with agents from the Civil Guard, have seized 12,250 packs of contraband tobacco, part of which were being transported inside a vehicle and the rest were stored in a storage room in the Malaga town of Torre del Mar.

The actions occurred when the agents stopped a vehicle, inside which they discovered twelve boxes containing 6,000 packs of tobacco. This merchandise had been taken from a garage that was being used as a warehouse and in which another 6,250 packs were found.

The operation has concluded with the arrest of the person driving the vehicle, who is accused of an alleged crime of smuggling, and the seizure of a total of 12,250 packs of tobacco that lacked the corresponding tax seals and whose valuation is close to the 50,000 euros. In addition, the vehicle that served as a means of transporting the illegal merchandise has been seized, as well as the cash that the detainee was carrying, 11,650 euros.

Members of the Malaga Customs Surveillance Operational Unit and the Fiscal and Border Patrol of the Malaga town of Algarrobo of the Civil Guard have participated in the investigations, who continue with the actions aimed at locating all the members in charge of the illegal distribution and storage of tobacco.

Both the seized effects and the detainee have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court on duty in Vélez Málaga.
