More than 12,000 packets of contraband cigarettes seized in the Malaga town of Torre del Mar

  • The driver of the vehicle that was transporting part of the tobacco has been arrested and charged with smuggling.

  • The actions have allowed the location of a garage where illegal tobacco was stored.

July 14, 2023.- Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency, together with agents from the Civil Guard, have seized 12,250 packets of contraband tobacco, some of which were being transported inside a vehicle and the rest were stored in a storage room in the Malaga town of Torre del Mar.

The actions took place when the agents stopped a vehicle and discovered twelve boxes containing 6,000 packets of cigarettes. This merchandise had been taken from a garage that was being used as a warehouse and in which another 6,250 packets were found.

The operation concluded with the arrest of the person driving the vehicle, who is accused of an alleged crime of smuggling and the seizure of a total of 12,250 packets of tobacco that did not have the corresponding tax seals and whose value is close to 50,000 euros. In addition, the vehicle used to transport the illegal goods was seized, as well as the cash that the detainee was carrying, 11,650 euros.

Members of the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit of Malaga and the Fiscal and Border Patrol of the Malaga town of Algarrobo of the Civil Guard have participated in the investigations, who continue with the actions aimed at locating all members in charge of the illegal distribution and storage of tobacco.

Both the seized items and the detainee have been placed at the disposal of the on-duty investigating court in Vélez Málaga.
