A network dedicated to introducing hashish through the port of Algeciras in hidden containers has been dismantled
A joint operation by the Tax Agency and the Guardia Civil
- Ten people have been arrested and more than 5,500 kilos of hashish have been seized in various operations over the last eight months
- The detainees made all kinds of false bottoms in trailers to hide the drugs
July 3, 2023.- The Risk Analysis Unit (UAR), made up of officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Fiscal and Border Company of the port of Algeciras, has dismantled, within the framework of the operation 'Completum', an organization dedicated to hashish trafficking.
The investigation began in October 2022 when investigators detected the existence of a criminal network dedicated to transporting large quantities of hashish hidden in all types of hidden bottoms in trailers.
The peculiarity of this organization is that it managed to achieve a high degree of efficiency when it came to hiding the substance and making the most of the cavities created in these transports. So much so that it was really difficult to detect the substances through scanners or through the action of dogs from the Canine Group of the Algeciras Command.
Seizures have been made on ceilings, floors, walls and fuel tanks, all of which are manufactured in a manner that is very difficult to detect.
In addition, the network was responsible for recruiting people who, for some kind of compensation, were willing to appear as owners of the trailers in which they smuggled the drugs. They also used Moroccan license plates, and in some cases even used data from deceased persons for the same purposes. All these maneuvers were aimed at making it difficult to identify those responsible for the shipments.
Overall, and after carrying out various actions over the last eight months, including more than ten seizures with an average of 400 kilos per seizure, a total of 5,560 kilos of hashish have been seized, valued at more than eleven million euros, ten people have been arrested and two more people have been investigated. In addition, eleven land transport vehicles, mainly trailers, have been seized.
The corresponding proceedings have been initiated regarding the events, which, together with the detainees and the confiscated items, have been made available to the Judicial Authority.
