June 29, 2023.- Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency, Civil Guard and the General Corps of the Canary Islands Police have dismantled in Gran Canaria a 'cannabis club' where drugs were sold and a marijuana plantation located on a farm with more than 600 plants, where the club's sales took place. In addition, two people have been arrested for a crime against public health.
The operation, called 'Atacayte', began in 2022, when investigators discovered the existence of a 'cannabis association', located in the town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which was dedicated to the sale of marijuana and processed and derived hashish.
Once the necessary investigations and follow-ups were carried out, investigators located the origin of the substance and the place where the substances that supplied the 'cannabis club' were produced. That place was a house with a farm located in the municipality of Gáldar.
Subsequently, Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency, Civil Guard and Canary Islands Police carried out two raids and searches on June 22. The first, on the Galdar estate, where two people were arrested and more than 600 marijuana plants were seized. The plantation had advanced facilities for cultivation, development and preparation for distribution.
During the survey, researchers found different areas for plant development depending on their growth stage, ventilation and air extraction systems, water filtration systems and powerful lighting equipment, all of which are capable of ensuring rapid cultivation in optimal conditions. The facilities also had drying and leaf-removing areas for subsequent distribution.
At the same time, another raid and search was carried out at the 'cannabis club', where 18 plants, more than a kilo of dried marijuana buds ready for consumption, pieces of hashish and cash were seized.
Those responsible for the possession of the seized substances have been identified, and all proceedings are at the disposal of the corresponding duty court in Santa María de Guía.
