A tobacco smuggling distribution network dismantled

November 20, 2023.- Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency and agents of the National Police have dismantled, in their fight against the trafficking of illegal substances, a sting distribution network of contraband tobacco.

In the operation carried out last October, two people were arrested for the crime of tobacco smuggling. The investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.

Operation for the location and interception of merchandise

Following the investigations carried out by Customs Surveillance officials and agents of the National Police, an operation was organized to locate and intercept the transport of contraband tobacco in the Sevillian town of Écija.

It was on the morning of October 26 of this year, when the agents involved in the operation intercepted a rental van that was transporting 260 packages, which in total contained 722 kilos of smuggled tobacco.

The seized product lacked the relevant health controls and permits, reaching a value of 115,520 euros in the current market.

The operation culminated in the arrest of two adult males, who were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.

The investigation, which has been developed within the permanent collaboration between Customs Surveillance and the National Police in the fight against trafficking of illegal substances in the province of Seville, remains open.
