A contraband tobacco grinding factory dismantled in Linares (Jaén)

November 22, 2023.- Customs Surveillance Officials from the Tax Agency in Córdoba and agents from the Linares National Police Station (Jaén) have dismantled a factory for the production of sting contraband tobacco in the Jaén town of Linares.

In the operation, carried out on November 8, three people were arrested for an alleged crime of tobacco smuggling. The investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.

Operation for the location of the factory

After the investigations carried out by Customs Surveillance officials and agents of the National Police, it was learned of the existence of a warehouse in the vicinity of the Rubiales industrial estate, in Linares, where tobacco leaves were being chopped for sale as chopped tobacco. rolling cigarettes

For this reason, the corresponding surveillance device was established in the vicinity. After detecting the arrival of a person at the ship and the opening of the door, the investigators observed the merchandise from the outside, so they proceeded to inspect the ship, finding more than 700 kilos of tobacco leaves inside. which was used as raw material for the preparation of the bite.

In addition, around 150 bags, weighing one kilo each, were located with crushed tobacco inside and machinery to chop, package and weigh the merchandise. The narcotic substance was already ready to be sent throughout the national territory through courier companies.

The seized product lacked the relevant health controls and permits, reaching a value of 843,000 euros.

The operation culminated with the arrest of three adult males, residents of Linares, who were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.

The investigation has been developed within the permanent collaboration between Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and the National Police in the fight against trafficking of illegal substances in the province of Jaén.
