  • A woman arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug cultivation and trafficking

November 27, 2023.- Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency in Motril have dismantled a marijuana production center belonging to a criminal group based in Cijuela (Granada) and have arrested a woman as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug cultivation and trafficking.

The operation, called 'Romero 2', began last October, when Customs Surveillance officials in Motril learned of the existence of a marijuana production center in the town of Cijuela that belonged to a criminal group.

Following the investigations carried out, it was possible to locate the production centre, which was a house. In addition, it was found out that some of the people involved had already been investigated previously.

After conclusively confirming that there was a marijuana plantation inside the house located, Customs Surveillance investigators proceeded to enter and search the house, finding a large infrastructure for growing marijuana in the basement of the house. 349 cannabis sativa plants in an advanced stage of flowering, ready to be cut, were immediately seized.

In addition, various machinery and products necessary for indoor marijuana cultivation were found in the house, such as fans, carbon filters, water pumps, air conditioning compressors, phytosanitary products and a large number of halogen lights.

The drugs were then taken to the Customs Surveillance Operations Unit in Motril, where the corresponding police proceedings were initiated.

Both the arrested woman, of Spanish nationality, and the seized goods have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of Santa Fe (Granada), acting as on-call court.

The investigation is still ongoing, so further arrests are not ruled out in the coming days.
