An arrestee in Almendralejo for trafficking drugs sent by parcel

  • Although the "narcotest" indicated that it was MDMA, previous research suggests that it could actually be a drug classified as new psychoactive substances.

  • The package, containing 106 grams of substance, had been sent to Extremadura through a parcel company from Burgos.

January 30, 2024.- Customs Surveillance Officials of the Tax Agency have arrested a person for trafficking drugs sent by parcel and have seized 106 grams of narcotic substance.

The action began when the Customs Surveillance Burgos Operational Unit, after previous investigations, inspected a package in the logistics center of the transport company, located in Miranda de Ebro, as it was suspected of transporting drugs.

The researchers performed the "narcotest" on the substance, resulting in a positive result for MDMA with a trace of cocaine.

After these previous actions, authorization was received from the Investigating Court No. 2 of Miranda de Ebro to carry out a supervised delivery of the package, which had its origin in the Netherlands and destination Almendralejo.

Thus, on December 29, the controlled delivery operation was established, with prior communication to the head of the Mixed Investigative Court No. 3 of Almendralejo on guard duty.

In the operation, carried out by the Badajoz Customs Surveillance Operational Unit, the receiver of the package was arrested for the alleged commission of a drug trafficking crime.

The detainee was transferred to the offices of the Badajoz Operational Unit to carry out the various procedures, informing the head of the court on duty.

In addition, the investigators proceeded to seize the substance contained in the package because they considered that a crime against public health was being committed.

Although the "narcotest" carried out indicated that it was MDMA, previous investigations and the morphological and appearance characteristics of the seized substance indicate that it is really a psychoactive substance from the group called "cathinones", a drug classified as a new psychoactive substance. (NSP). These new psychoactive substances or "designer drugs" constitute a risk to people's health, and their trafficking has become a global phenomenon. The UNODC and the National Drug Plan warn of the dangers posed by these substances, especially among young people.

The final analysis of the content will be carried out by the competent toxicology institute.
