New "indoor" marijuana plantations dismantled in several properties in Guadalajara

  • 6,674 plants with 647 kilos of marijuana valued at more than two million euros were seized

  • Eleven people arrested, charged with crimes against public health, document falsification and electricity fraud

  • The properties had a good part of the rooms or facilities dedicated to the cultivation of plants, giving the external appearance of a mere residential property or an industrial warehouse.

June 12, 2024.- Officials from the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency in Castilla-La Mancha have intervened two homes and an industrial warehouse in the municipalities of El Casar, Uceda, and Guadalajara that were dedicated to the cultivation of 'indoor' marijuana. As a result of this action, the sixth of similar characteristics deployed in recent months in the province of Guadalajara, a total of 6,674 plants with some 647 kilos of marijuana and more than two thousand euros in cash have been intervened, and eleven people have been arrested. , who are charged with crimes against public health, document falsification and electricity fraud.

The operations called 'Storm' and 'Austria' have been developed by the Operational Unit of the Customs Surveillance Service in Guadalajara, with the collaboration of the Reaction and Intervention Group of the Subdirectorate General of Operations of the Deputy Directorate of the Customs Surveillance Service and of the Guadalajara Local Police, respectively.

The operations, which led to the dismantling of the respective plantations on June 3 and 6, began last March with another operation called 'Caramelo', thanks to the collaboration of citizens who warned of the strong smell of marijuana coming from the surroundings of the property then intervened.

The initial investigation finally culminated with the entry and search of the properties, inside which the agents found a total of 6,674 'cannabis sativa' plants, marijuana, in different stages of growth and flowering, located in different rooms of the property and adapted to illegal cultivation.

The organization had the necessary infrastructure for this, having a perfectly arranged electrical installation that allowed it to supply the different air conditioning, air extraction, lighting and heat lamps, as well as the irrigation system. Everything has been seized, as well as the numerous fertilizer products used to force the plants to grow.

In turn, the investigation carried out made it possible to clarify the existence of several illegal connections to the electricity supply (electricity fraud) thanks to the actions of the Customs Surveillance Service, which was able to detect direct connections to the electrical network.

During the proceedings, eleven people were arrested inside the buildings, although the investigation remains open and new arrests have not been ruled out.
