Eight vehicles stolen in the United States intercepted in the port of Algeciras

  • The vehicles arrived at the port of Algeciras in four containers from the port of Newark (United States)
  • The market value of the recovered vehicles amounts to more than 390,000 euros

May 20, 2024.- The Risk Analysis Unit (ULAR) composed of Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Fiscal and Border Company of the port of Algeciras , has intercepted eight stolen vehicles in four containers from the United States at the port of Algeciras facilities.

As a result of the control, identification and inspection work of containers, destined for or transiting in Spain, that the ULAR carries out daily in the container terminal of the port of Algeciras and after meticulous analysis work, the agents detected four containers coming from the port from Newark (United States), the contents of which may not correspond to the declared merchandise.

Given the suspicions, the agents proceeded to open the containers, finding eight high-end vehicles inside with a market value of more than 390,000 euros.

After the appropriate verifications, in collaboration with the United States liaisons, the agents verified that these were vehicles stolen in the American country.

The vehicles were seized to proceed with their return to their country of origin to be delivered to their respective owners. The corresponding proceedings have been carried out regarding the facts and have been made available to the judicial authority.
