• The joint investigation between the Customs Surveillance Unit of the Tax Agency in Girona and the Mossos d'Esquadra of the DIC, has led to the arrest of four people and the seizure of more than six kilos of heroin, cocaine and hashish with a value of 428,000 euros on the illicit market.

October 11, 2024.- The Customs Surveillance Unit of the Tax Agency in Girona together with agents of the Generalitat Police - Mossos d'Esquadra of the DIC of Girona, have arrested four men between 38 and 60 years old, who have 14 police records for crimes against property and public health. They are mainly accused of drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal group and illegal possession of weapons.

The investigation was launched in March of this year by the Customs Surveillance Unit of the Tax Agency in Girona together with the Border Operations Group of the DIC of Girona, upon detecting the arrival of heroin to La Jonquera, and other towns in Alt Empordà, to supply this drug, as well as cocaine and hashish to buyers from France.

Investigators focused on four men who were responsible for introducing the drugs into the Alt Empordà and storing them in different addresses, including a food store in La Jonquera, to later resell them mainly to other small-scale traffickers, although they also sold them retail.

The joint team detected that the suspects suspected that the police were following them, so the operation to exploit the investigation was rushed with the aim of preventing them from getting rid of the drugs.

On October 3, a joint police operation was established by both forces to arrest the four suspects, and seven raids were carried out at the homes of those investigated in La Jonquera, Figueres and Cabanes. During the raids, 900 grams of heroin, around four kilos of cocaine, in powder and rock form, more than one kilo of hashish and cutting substance were seized. 277,000 euros in cash and a handgun with 32 bullets were also found.

The seized drugs are believed to have a value of 428,000 euros on the black market.

On October 5, the detainees were brought before the Investigating Court No. 1 of Figueres.

Heroin hidden in yogurt containers

In May 2024, a patrol from La Jonquera stopped a car with two occupants and during the search of the vehicle, 17 bags of narcotic substances, including heroin, weighing approximately 500 grams, were found hidden in properly sealed yogurt containers. As a result of these events, two people were arrested for crimes against public health. This intervention was not the only one, since several heroin seizures had previously been made using the same concealment method.

Following various seizures of heroin and other substances from both vehicle occupants and people leaving certain apartment blocks in the town of La Jonquera, the investigation focused on the municipalities of La Jonquera, Figueres and Cabanes.

The investigation is still ongoing and further arrests are not ruled out, involving other small-scale traffickers to whom the criminal organisation supplied material.
