A family clan dedicated to growing marijuana has been dismantled in the province of Seville

  • Two people arrested for drug trafficking and electricity fraud

  • More than a hundred marijuana plants seized

October 15, 2024.- The Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, in a joint investigation, have dismantled a family clan dedicated to the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana in the Sevillian town of Mairena del Aljarafe. Two people have been arrested and 102 marijuana plants have been seized as part of the operation, called 'Sophie-Nicandoor'.

The operation began at the beginning of September, when agents from the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit of the Tax Agency in Seville received information regarding a single-family home in the town that gave off a strong smell of marijuana.

Joint actions were carried out by the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit in Seville and the Judicial Police team of Mairena del Aljarafe of the Civil Guard, which confirmed these facts and verified that the house in question was illegally connected to the electricity supply, this being a common practice in 'indoor' marijuana plantations.

The marijuana plantation was hidden from the house, accessible only through a rear trapdoor in the garden. To avoid arousing suspicion among neighbors, it had a sophisticated odor-dissipation system.

Once the alleged perpetrators of the crops were identified, the raid was ordered by the Investigative Court No. 8 of Seville. As a result of the searches carried out, a total of 102 marijuana plants and 500 euros in cash were seized, and two arrests were made.

The detainees are charged with crimes against public health and electricity fraud.
