August 7, 2025.- National Police officers, along with personnel from the Motril Customs Surveillance Service's Operational Unit, have arrested four men as alleged perpetrators of drug trafficking. They were responsible for and cared for a plantation of more than 3,000 plants located in a greenhouse on a property in the town of Albondón. The land, measuring almost 13,000 square meters, housed the greenhouse, which occupied almost half of the space, in addition to having an annex building that also served as a home and a workshop for handling the marijuana for processing and distribution.

Joint operation of the National Police and Customs Surveillance

The investigation was initiated by agents from the Motril Customs Surveillance Service's Operational Unit, working in conjunction with the Narcotics Unit of the Motril National Police Local Brigade. Together, they were able to determine during the investigation that narcotic cultivation and production activities, specifically marijuana, were taking place in an isolated area of the town of Albondón, in the province of Granada. The joint investigation has been called “Operation Plastic”.

Police investigations led both groups to a nearly 13,000-square-meter property where all investigations and suspicions pointed to its use for the cultivation and development of "Cannabis Sativa" plants.

During the search, carried out on the morning of August 4, a search operation was launched to determine the extent of the plantation, identify and, if necessary, arrest those responsible, and dismantle it.

A large greenhouse inside a farm

As soon as the search began, the officers saw two people who had previously been observed performing maintenance work on the plantation. Faced with the police presence, these two men fled hastily, being intercepted several meters later and led back to the greenhouse.

Inside the greenhouse, which measures almost 6,000 square meters, it was noted that almost a third of its surface was planted with cannabis sativa plants, which showed different stages of development, from plants in the early stages of germination (cuttings) to plants in an advanced stage of flowering. This indicated that the greenhouse was designed for sustained, uninterrupted cultivation throughout the year. In total, the agents found nearly 3,300 plants in various stages of development during the search. The estimated value of the drugs seized exceeds €1,600,000.

Attached to the plantation was also a house occupied by the greenhouse workers. On one side were the rooms where they could carry out their leisure activities, and on the other, there was a room equipped for handling marijuana.

There are four people arrested for these events. Two men of Spanish nationality, aged 50 and 23 respectively, and two brothers of Albanian nationality, aged 36 and 28.
