1,000 packs of contraband cigarettes seized at Valencia airport
- The tobacco was found in a suitcase on a flight from Istanbul (Türkiye)
December 5, 2025. Officials from the Tax Agency's Passenger Service and agents from the Civil Guard's Fiscal Enforcement, both under the authority of the Customs Administrator at Manises Airport (Valencia), have seized 1,000 packs of cigarettes in a suitcase carried by a passenger on a flight from Istanbul.
During the control of the arrival of flights with international connections, the agents of the Fiscal Guard of the Civil Guard identified a passenger, of Romanian nationality, who came from Istanbul (Turkey) and was carrying a large suitcase. When asked if he had anything to declare in his luggage, he said no.
Following the usual customs procedure, his luggage was scanned by the 'X-ray' scanner, which showed a large number of compact packages of organic matter filling the entire suitcase.
Opened in his presence, a multitude of tobacco cartons were observed, perfectly stacked to occupy all the luggage space. In total, 100 cartons (1,000 packs) of contraband tobacco were found, which lacked the corresponding seals.
Therefore, the passenger was issued a tobacco smuggling citation, the processing of which corresponds to the Tax Agency.
The operation was carried out by officials from the Tax Agency's Passenger Service and agents from the Civil Guard's Fiscal Guard under the supervision of the Airport's Customs and Special Tax Administrator.
