More than 400,000 counterfeit packs of tobacco seized at a nursery in Seville

July 9, 2025.- The Tax Agency's Customs Surveillance Unit, in collaboration with the Civil Guard, has dismantled a criminal organization accused of distributing contraband counterfeit tobacco in Andalusia.

The joint investigation began after detecting high-intensity activity by members of the organization who were under police surveillance. To hinder the investigation, the organization had set up shop in various locations in the provinces of Seville, Malaga, and Cordoba.

During the established surveillance operation, investigators detected that large movements of counterfeit tobacco were being carried out throughout the Andalusian community, which led to the joint operation between units of the Tax Agency's Customs Surveillance Service, the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Seville Command, and units from the Seville and Malaga Commands.

As a result of these actions, the investigation concluded with the arrest of seven people who have been charged with tobacco smuggling, membership in a criminal organization, and intellectual property crimes. Likewise, the various searches conducted located a "nursery" used by the organization in an industrial park in the province of Seville, where 405,500 packs of counterfeit cigarettes of various brands were seized. These cigarettes lacked the required tax seals, with a market value exceeding €2,380,000.

The detainees, along with the proceedings, have been handed over to the competent judicial authority.

The operation was carried out by the Malaga and Seville Customs Surveillance Operational Units of the Tax Agency and the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard of Seville.
