June 17, 2025.- Customs Surveillance officers from the Tax Agency, in a joint operation with National Police officers, seized 3,250 liters of fuel and a 1,200-hp high-speed boat used for petaqueo (a type of petaqueo) off the southern coast of Huelva. The two crew members were arrested 10 miles from the coast.
The investigation began as part of a joint operation off the coast of Huelva, carried out by the Tax Agency and the National Police to prevent drug trafficking and monitor recreational boats that supply gasoline canisters to rubber boats used to transport narcotics.
During the early hours of May 31, the patrol boat "Alcatraz" detected a small boat approaching a rubber boat that was being supplied with gasoline canisters. To neutralize the operation, the patrol boat "Fénix II" approached the high-speed vessel to board it, at which point it was rammed by the "rubber" boat, with the perpetrators unable to evade the officers' action.
3,250 liters of gasoline in canisters
During the operation, the two occupants of the boat were arrested as suspects of smuggling and public safety violations. 130 fuel canisters, known as "petacas," containing a total of 3,250 liters of gasoline were seized. In addition, a 14-meter-long vessel with 1,200 hp (1,200 hp) of power, equipped with radar and a satellite mobile phone, was seized.
Once the detainees were brought before the judicial authorities, both were remanded in custody. The investigation remains ongoing to fully identify the distribution and logistics network, as well as other potential suspects linked to drug trafficking activity in the area.
