June 26, 2025.- Customs Surveillance officers from the Tax Agency in Murcia and National Police officers have dismantled several indoor grows with 2,400 marijuana plants that had been planted in various homes in the San José neighborhood of Alcantarilla (Murcia).
The investigation, which began earlier this year, involved a series of investigations that confirmed the existence of an organized network of homes that allegedly contained several marijuana plantations. It was found that all of them had fraudulent connections to the electricity distribution grid, which the marijuana plantation owners had allegedly established to avoid the high electricity supply costs required by these facilities.
In the Customs Surveillance and National Police operation, a total of 14 raids were carried out on homes in the San José neighborhood, where more than 2,400 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, air conditioning units, fans, lighting fixtures, carbon filters, electrical equipment, and various amounts of cash were seized.
The presence and collaboration of technicians from the energy supply company was necessary to eliminate the risk of fire and to disconnect the electrical connections that had been made fraudulently and without the necessary safety measures.
Finally, 36 people have been arrested and charged with drug trafficking, membership in a criminal group, and electricity fraud.
