June 6, 2025.- Customs Surveillance officers from the Tax Agency and Civil Guard agents have seized €200,000 in cash and 890 packs of cigarettes without tax seals hidden in a bus traveling on the ferry from Nador (Morocco) at the port of Almería, and have arrested the vehicle's driver.
On May 22nd, a joint operation between Customs Surveillance and the Civil Guard's UDAIF (Underground Vehicle Inspection Unit) was carried out at the port of Almería to control vehicles disembarking from the ferry from Nador.
As a result of this operation, several vehicles were physically identified and inspected, including a bus with French license plates. Inside, a backpack containing €200,000 in cash, divided into €50, €100, €200, and €500 bills, was found hidden next to the driver's compartment. For this reason, investigators arrested the bus driver, a Moroccan national, for alleged smuggling.
In addition, 890 packs of contraband tobacco were discovered inside the bus, without the corresponding tax seals, so they were seized, and an administrative smuggling violation was issued.
Both the detainee and the seized goods have been brought before the Almería Duty Court.
