Three containers with 60,000 counterfeit handbags seized at the port of Vigo

  • The merchandise was destined for a Portuguese company.

  • Some of the counterfeit bags already had the brand logos glued or sewn on.

November 14, 2025. Tax Agency officials belonging to Customs and agents of the Fiscal Service of the Civil Guard of Pontevedra, have seized on November 11 more than 60,000 counterfeit handbags that pretended to correspond to items of various luxury brands during the review of goods declared for import in the port of Vigo. With this operation, the total number of counterfeit products seized in recent months has reached almost 100,000 units.

The action was carried out when the three containers, coming from China, were checked by Customs and Fiscal Company personnel of the Civil Guard of the port of Vigo, within the framework of the actions of control of goods to guarantee their compliance with community regulations.

In the declaration submitted to Customs, the merchandise was addressed to a Portuguese company, so its end-use could be the Portuguese market.

Some of the bags already had the logo of the counterfeit luxury brand glued or sewn on. The rest of the products emulated the shape of specific models of luxury brand handbags, bearing, though not yet sewn on, the logos of the different brands.

In accordance with customs regulations, when Customs detects shipments that infringe industrial property rights (trademarks and patents), it stops the shipment and alerts the trademark holders so that they can defend their rights by filing the corresponding lawsuits.
