April 21, 2026. Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency, in a joint operation with agents from the National Police of the General Commissariat of Judicial Police (Udyco Central) and the Narcotics Group of the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police of Guadalajara, in collaboration with the Local Police of Torrejón del Rey, have dismantled a criminal group dedicated to the 'indoor' cultivation of marijuana in a house located in the Parque Las Castillas urbanisation of Torrejón del Rey (Guadalajara) which had a plantation consisting of 521 plants.
The investigation began at the start of the year when, on the one hand, Customs Surveillance officials, and on the other hand, National Police agents, had begun separate investigations that were being carried out in parallel on the same criminal group based in Torrejón del Rey. Customs Surveillance had detected signs of possible illicit activity thanks to the controls carried out in the area, and the police had also started their investigations after receiving an anonymous complaint from a citizen who, through official channels, informed the National Police that there was a strong smell of marijuana, which became more intense at certain times of the day. At the beginning of the year, both investigations converged and a joint operation was launched, which also had the collaboration of the Local Police of Torrejón del Rey.
Initial checks by the agents confirmed that, every five or six days, two men entered the suspect residence with drums, boxes and bags of food. After remaining inside for approximately one hour, they left the place.
They also detected that there was a third person who remained continuously inside the house, without ever leaving, acting as a 'guardian' of the plantation. The other two individuals, later identified as being in charge of the group, supplied him with food and materials necessary for growing marijuana.
Once the two main suspects were identified, who had prior records for similar offenses, the search of the house was carried out, which culminated in the seizure of a total of 521 marijuana plants in different stages of growth and flowering, located in different rooms of the property, as well as abundant technical material used in this type of cultivation, including air conditioning equipment, fans, irrigation systems, carbon filters and humidifiers.
As a result of the operation, the two ringleaders of the group were arrested and brought before the competent judicial authority, and are charged crimes against public health and fraud in the electricity supply.
The investigation has made it possible to dismantle a major drug production point in the province, preventing its distribution on the illicit market.
