April 22, 2026. As part of an operation carried out by the Girona Operational Unit of Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and agents of the Girona Civil Guard Command, belonging to the Organic Unit of Judicial Police, on March 17, a criminal group allegedly dedicated to international drug trafficking was dismantled.

The investigation, which began in August 2025 after a controlled delivery in which the suspects received 65.5 kilos of marijuana hidden in paint cans and sent from Thailand, allowed the identification of a structured and hierarchical organization that adopted sophisticated security measures with the aim of hindering police action.

The operation carried out by the criminal group consisted of sending pallets equipped with false bottoms containing the narcotic substance to the Netherlands, and in turn, receiving these empty pallets from the Netherlands for later use.

As a result of the operation, six raids were carried out on four homes and two industrial buildings in the towns of La Pera, Sils, Blanes and Lloret de Mar (Girona). In these searches, a total of 221 kilos of hashish and 86.5 kilos of marijuana, prepared for distribution, were seized. Also seized were two revolver-type firearms, both loaded, as well as 180 metallic cartridges of ammunition and 13,780 euros in cash.

During the operation, four people were arrested, all of them men between the ages of 52 and 63, of Dutch (two of them), Spanish and Romanian nationality. The detainees are accused of the crimes of belonging to a criminal group, against public health, smuggling and illegal possession of firearms.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the head of the Court of First Instance number 1 of Santa Coloma de Farners (Girona), who ordered their provisional imprisonment.

The investigation remains open and further arrests are possible.
