April 28, 2026. Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency and National Police have seized 120 kilos of cocaine that was hidden in false bottoms of five containers from Suriname. Three people have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health.
The operation began when, thanks to the close cooperation that takes place daily between both institutions, through information from international authorities, and within the framework of an investigation opened by the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office of Algeciras, it was learned that five containers were present in the port of Algeciras whose declared content consisted of "raw wood" in which it was suspected that cocaine could be hidden.
Based on the information obtained, the search and location of the five containers whose characteristics matched the data obtained was carried out: Equipment from Suriname, declared as wood and destined for a Spanish company.
The investigation began last year when officials from the Customs Surveillance Service and agents from the National Police proceeded to inspect the containers, where 120 kilos of cocaine were found hidden in false bottoms. Following the seizure of the narcotic substance, judicial proceedings were initiated by the Court of Instruction Number 3 of Algeciras.
As part of the investigation, an exhaustive analysis of the commercial documentation associated with the shipments was carried out, which made it possible to identify both the alleged people responsible for the logistical coordination of the transport and the person used as a front man to give the operation a legal appearance, with all three people being located and arrested.
