February 16, 2026. The Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency has intercepted in Huelva a postal package containing 36.7 kilos of marijuana destined for Tarragona that incorporated a geolocation device inserted by the organization to control the shipment.
Among the functions entrusted to the Customs Department, through Customs Surveillance, is the inspection and control of parcel shipments made through logistics distribution centers. As part of these efforts, on February 5th, several inspections of postal packages were carried out at the Huelva distribution center, and Customs agents detected several suspicious packages, which, once checked, proved positive for narcotics.
Among these actions, a shipment intercepted at the GLS parcel company in Huelva, destined for Tarragona, stands out. Inside, it contained marijuana flower with a total weight of 36.7 kilos of this substance.
Sending narcotics through parcel delivery companies is a system frequently used by drug trafficking criminal organizations with the intention of trying to evade customs and police controls and thus minimize the risks of being detected and arrested.
These criminal organizations adopt security measures with technology that allow them to know and control the route of these shipments of illegal substances at all times. In the case of the shipment to Tarragona, inside the package where the 36.7 kilos of marijuana were seized, a geolocation device was found, placed by the drug trafficking organization with the intention of controlling and tracking the shipment.
The seized merchandise has been placed at the disposal of the Huelva Instruction Section on duty, which is aware of the facts. The investigation remains open to fully identification those responsible, so arrests are not ruled out.
