June 4, 2026. Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency, within the framework of operation 'Sacromonte', have dismantled a marijuana production center belonging to a criminal group, based in the Sacromonte area (Granada) and have seized 374 'cannabis sativa' plants in an advanced state of flowering. In the operation, a Spanish national, with no prior police record, has been arrested so far as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug cultivation and trafficking and a crime of electricity fraud.

The operation began at the beginning of May, when Customs Surveillance agents in Motril located a marijuana production center in the Sacromonte area, which belonged to a criminal group of national origin. In addition, they detected numerous illegal connections to the electricity supply in the vicinity that could be indications of the existence of drug cultivation.

The investigators inspected the area of cave houses known as Barranco de los Naranjos in search of 'indoor' plantations of narcotic substances. There, numerous illegal connections to the electricity supply network were discovered and removed, thus preventing possible fire incidents.

Once the existence of the marijuana plantation inside a house near Barranco de los Naranjos was confirmed, the agents requested authorization from its resident to carry out a home search, which he voluntarily agreed to.

The officers searched the house and found three rooms dedicated to the cultivation of marijuana with 374 'cannabis sativa' plants with buds already prepared to be cut. Also seized were a large number of halogen lights, fans, carbon filters, water pumps, air conditioning compressors and phytosanitary products, all necessary for indoor marijuana cultivation, and the man who was in the plantation was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health for cultivation and trafficking of drugs and a crime of fraud of electrical fluid.

The investigators transferred the drugs to the facilities of the Motril Operational Unit of Customs Surveillance, where the corresponding police procedures were carried out.

The detainee and the seized goods have been placed at the disposal of the Granada Court on duty.

The investigation by Customs Surveillance agents remains open, so further arrests are possible in the coming days. The operation involved the collaboration of the Granada Local Police, specifically the GAPB group, as well as technicians from the electricity supply company.
