March 10, 2026. The Risk Analysis Unit (UAR), made up of Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and Civil Guards from the Fiscal and Border Company of the port of Algeciras, has seized 47,500 packs of contraband cigarettes in a vehicle that arrived at the port from Morocco.
The events took place on February 20th in the area set up for the inspection of vehicles arriving in Algeciras from Tangier.
As a result of the analysis, control, identification and inspection work of vehicles, which the tax protection agents carry out daily, they detected a vehicle that raised suspicions, so they proceeded to carry out a more thorough examination of it.
After opening the trailer, it was found to be carrying numerous boxes of contraband tobacco of different brands, which, once extracted, yielded 47,500 packs of cigarettes. The market value of the seized merchandise amounts to 248,750 euros.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a smuggling offense and, together with the proceedings carried out and the seized tobacco, has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
